I read “Deep-sea Diary” by Simon Bartram. The story is about Douglas who goes diving in the sea. He wants to find the Atlantic. He saw mermaids and sharks. My favourite page shows Douglas eating his dinner surrounded by sharks! I liked the book because it’s about diving and there are lots of lovely pictures.

Winnie At The Seaside
By Korky Paul and Valerie Thomas

The illustrators and authors of Winnie at the seaside are Korky Paul and Valerie Thomas. There are more than two million Winnie the witch books sold. That is good for Korky Paul and Valerie Thomas. The story is about when Winnie and Wilbur feel far too hot so they decide to go to the seaside. What happens there was very good , they flew on the broomstick , over the flats and houses at last they got to the beach , there was a lot of people at the seaside.

My favourite part in in whole the story is when the Killer whale blows the Broomstick up in the air and the surfer gets it…

The book is hugely entertaining

I really enjoyed this book too. The illustrations are so detailed you can spend ages finding new things. I love Winnie, if I were a witch I would want to be like her. I think Wilbur is my favourite character though, he is definitely the smarter of the two and he makes me laugh.
My favourite part of the story is when Winnie makes her own swimming pool – wouldn’t that be fantastic!
I would recommend Winnie at the Seaside as a great book to read or have read to you.

Book Review
The Hobbit

This is the story about a hobbit, Bilbo, who has never been on an adventure. But after an unexpected party with twelve dwarves and one wizard he is tricked into going on one.

The author of this book was J.R.R Tolkien, he also wrote The Lord Of The Rings and the Silmarillion. I have started to read the Lord Of The Rings and have seen the movies.

The book is so well written it makes you feel as if you are in Middle Earth with them.

My favourite part is the battle of the five armies. I like the way that two armies come fight the dwarves and then end up fighting with them against the Goblins.

My favourite character is Beorn because of the way he could change from bear to man.

I heard that they are making a movie about this book and I’m looking forward to seeing it.

Matthew Bradley

I first read The Hobbit when I was the same age as Matthew. We read it as a project in Junior School and I can still remember how much I enjoyed reading it and how different it was to the books I had read up to then.

Like Matthew I like the way Tolkien draws his readers into the world of Middle Earth and creates a world that is both fantastical and believable. I think this is due to his characters’ humanity. Although the story is set in an imaginary world populated by strange creatures, the characters, especially Bilbo behave in a real and flawed manner which the reader can relate to.

Secret Seven Fireworks. Author- Enid Blyton.

This is a story about the Secret Seven and their adventures upto Bonfire Night.
There are 3 robbers who have stolen from an old lady and the Secret Seven find them by accident and lead the police to them. Scamper the dog helps too.
I like this story because it’s exciting and it’s as if I’m in the story with them.
I think it’s funny when Scamper bites one of the bad mens legs. It has a picture of this in the book.
There is so much adventure and it’s so exciting , I can’t close the book.

It is easy to get drawn into the adventures of the Secret Seven and to work together as a team and to come out of them safely. The pictures help bring the story to life.

Thumbelina by Hans Christian Andersen

This is a story about a little girl who was born in a beautiful flower. She was no bigger than your thumb and was called Thumbelina.
She slept in a little walnut shell and a toad took her away. This story is about her adventures with the toad, the mouse, the mole and the swallow. The swallow saves her from living with the mole and flies away on her back to the warmer lands where a handsome prince gives her his crown.
I like this story because Thumbelina doesn’t have to live underground in the dark and it has a happy ending. I love the pictures in the book especially the one where she floats downstream on the lily-pad.

I think this is an enchanting story and the illustrations in our book are superb watercolours.

I read ‘Tog, the Sporty Dog’ and ‘Hog, the Sporty Pig’. I really enjoyed them both, especially when Hog did the Pancake Race and said, “Yum, yum”, once he’d eaten the pancakes. The whole book was really good and rhymed. I would like to read other books just like it.

‘Charlotte’s Web’ by E . B White .
Illustrated by Garth Williams .

Charlotte’s Web is about a girl called Fern, her pig called Wilbur and a spider called Charlotte. This story is about a spider called Charlotte and a young girl called Fern who fight to keep Wilbur the pig alive and how they help him become a famous pig. This book has quite a sad ending as Charlotte dies because she was so busy helping everyone around her. She was a very clever spider as she could write messages in her webs and this helped save Wilbur’s life and helped him to become famous.

My favourite part was:
Fern, her family, Wilbur, Templeton and Charlotte went to the Country Fair to see all the animals and to see if Wilbur could win a prize. He had to have a buttermilk bath to make him clean but after he was finished he passed out with heatstroke and had to have water thrown on him.

The saddest part was:
When Charlotte died after the fair. Charlotte was exhausted with spinning all the webs and making the egg sac with 514 baby spiders. She very sad that she wouldn’t see all the baby spiders grow up.

The funniest part was:
When Wilbur escaped from his pig pen and he ran all over the farm with everyone running after him trying to catch him.

This is an excellent book that reinforces the fact that you don’t necessarily have to be the biggest, fastest, smartest or best at something to be very special. It also emphasises the importance of having good friends that you can trust.
The film version of this book is also well worth watching.
